Leg Length Discrepancy in a Patient with Ipsilateral Total Knee and Total Hip Arthroplasty

چکیده
Despite concerted intraoperative attempts to establish equal limb alignment, leg length discrepancy (LLD) remains a frequent complication following elective total hip arthroplasty (THA) [1]. A number of effective intraoperative imaging and clinical limb length techniques have been recommended to minimize this complication; however, all of these assessment modalities have their reported limitations [2,3]. Moreover, the multifactorial nature of the issue of equal leg length has impeded the development of a consensus among hip arthroplasty surgeons on how to best avoid LLD. We report an unusual case which exemplifies the complexity of this problem in an adult male with ipsilateral total knee arthroplasty (TKA) who experienced LLD following primary THA despite the utilization of recommended imaging and clinical techniques to circumvent this problem.

Leg-length discrepancy after total hip arthroplasty can pose a substantial problem for the orthopaedic surgeon. Such discrepancy has been associated with complications including nerve palsy, low back pain, and abnormal gait. Careful preoperative measurement and assessment, as well as preoperative and postoperative patient education, are important factors in achieving an acceptable result. Howev...

The natural history of an untreated case of a Developmental Dysplasia (Dislocation) of the Hip (DDH) associated with multiple congenital abnormalities is reported in a 55-years-old man. The patient’s complaints and the varieties of the typical manifestations emerged in other parts of the body throughout the life are reviewed and discussed as comorbidities of a dysplastic condition. Two-stage bi...

The purpose of this study was to compare total hip arthroplasty (THA) and hip resurfacing arthroplasty (HRA) with regard to the amount of acetabular bone stock removed and the ability to restore leg length and offset. Anteroposterior pelvis radiographs of 153 consecutive THAs and 84 consecutive HRAs were compared. Excluded patients were those with prior hip surgery, those in which a best-fit ci...
متن کاملArthroplasty of the hip--leg length is not important.
Discrepancy in leg length after total hip replacement has been associated with patient dissatisfaction. We prospectively studied 200 consecutive patients undergoing unilateral Charnley hip replacements to identify whether there is a demonstrable association between such disparity and postoperative function. Radiological measurements between defined points on the pelvis and femur of the operated...

Background: Periprosthetic joint infection is a devastating complication of total joint arthroplasty. It seems that thepatient’s skin, nose, throat, and urine are important sites for microbial colonization. Colonization with staphylococcusaureus, especially methicillin resistant increases the risk of periprosthetic joint infection. The aim of this study was toassess the prevalence of staphyloco...
